Abstract

As arts reporter for the Kamloops Daily News from 2000 to 2012, Youds provides a perspective on theatre in Kamloops that is both historical and contemporary. His narrative reveals his evolving attitudes to the role of a theatre critic in a small city. In addition to discussing the challenges to both reporters and theatre companies in small cities, he provides insights in to the Kamloops scene, specifically, concluding that “One of the strengths of theatre [here] is that its various components are part of an organic whole rather than existing in isolation.”
