Directing, Producing, Creating Arts in the Small City
Abstract
Convened during a conference on culture in the small city at Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC, this roundtable engages a variety of arts practitioners – including an arts reporter and directors and managers of theatre companies, symphonies, and art galleries – from across Canada in discussion of crucial questions around community engagement. Panellists define community engagement, provide illustrations of their companies’ community engaged practices, share concepts of community outreach, and outline the challenges and opportunities for arts practitioners and organizations in small cities.
