I arrived at the meeting ten minutes late, having spent the brunt of these wiping mud spatters off of my face. I entered to a table of suits, bike helmet in hand, and felt immediately out of place. I slid into a chair next to the City Alderman, and tucked my tattered gear out of sight.

Author Biography

Sharon Karsten, Simon Fraser University

Sharon Karsten’s interest in cultural activism stems from a history of mopping floors, flipping veggie-burgers, setting up tents and running community-based art projects. As former Executive Director of a non-profit animation cooperative (Quickdraw Animation), Sharon initiated a series of award-winning media interventions for youth at-risk. She continues her research on youth media through her current PhD studies at Simon Fraser University.
